Since 2001, Gemini Mobile Technologies has been a leader in providing real-time, high performance systems for wireless carriers and other enterprise customers. Gemini's platform solution leverages Gemini's HyperScale® technology technology including high-efficiency threading and I/O libraries and a modular, plug-in execution architecture. The systems are designed to run on standard, commodity hardware, Linux operating systems, and integratable to open protocols and open-source software. Gemini HyperScale® deployments are currently serving 1000s of transactions per second and tens of millions of users around the world. These include the messaging system at Softbank Mobile in Japan and the messaging system at Nextel International. In 2010, a fixed-mobile convergent web mail system was launched by a major Japanese ISP and mobile operator to support millions of users with multi-gigabyte sized mailboxes.
In the course of developing these systems, there was an inherent need to develop an efficient, fast, scalable and flexible database. In 2005, Gemini developed Hibari, a horizontally scalable, high transaction key-value database. Hibari® shares the "NOSQL" philosophy of trading off a high-level query language and transaction semantics for speed and scalability. Hibari® was open-sourced in 2010.
Pushed by the faster transactions and bigger data requirements, Gemini engineers gained deep design and production expertise in real-time, scalable storage technologies. Complementing Hibari, Gemini engineers have been heavily involved with other Big Data and NOSQL technologies, especially Cassandra and Hadoop.
Since 2010, Gemini has been an active, public advocate of Big Data and NOSQL technologies. Gemini hosted and organized "NOSQL AFTERNOON IN JAPAN" - the first event in Japan and the largest NOSQL event in the world. In addition, Gemini has provided successful hands-on training for NOSQL, Hibari, and Cassandra.
